FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Kids Martial Arts Programs

  • What is the best age to start?

The honest answer is any age. You are never too young or old to start learning. Martial arts is a great tool to build self-esteem, confidence and learn some cool self-defense skills. We have students as young as 4.5 years old, up to 80 years old.

  • How do I know which program is best for me?

The best way to determine this would be to sit down with one of our coaches and talk about your goals.

  • Will I need additional equipment?

Yes. With our starter pack, you will have everything you need to get going initially, but as you progress with us; you will need additional safety equipment at certain levels of rank.

  • Do martial arts like Taekwondo, Karate, Krav Maga and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu make your child aggressive?

This is a false statement. Martial Arts teach children to be respectful of themselves and others. This is the primary focus for learning martial arts. We often see kids who were aggressive, become some of our best students and great role models to others.

  • Is there a risk of injury in Martial Arts?

As with any physical activity, there are occasional injuries, but they are very minor. Our team of certified coaches do their very best to ensure our students are safe throughout their class time.

  • Do you have to be athletic to participate in martial arts training?

Absolutely not! Our program is for everybody. We have both adults and children in our program who are not overly athletic. They succeed and have a blast while improving daily.

  • Will martial arts improve my child’s confidence?

Yes! You will see improvement in your child’s behavior and confidence almost immediately. Our classes can have moments where they need to have a strict focus, but each student feels the sense of accomplishment as they begin to master their moves.

  • Are your classes for boys and girls?

Our classes have a healthy mix of both boys and girls. Your child will not be surrounded by members of the opposite sex. Our students make friends easily and learn to work together. Teamwork is a big part of martial arts training.

Adult Martial Arts Programs

  • Does Martial Arts have a high risk of injury?

With any form of exercise or sport, there is a risk of injury. Truth be told, we rarely see any injuries with our program. This is due in part to the fact that we take teaching very seriously. Our facility puts the safety of our students first and foremost. We watch each and every class very carefully to reduce the risk of injury to our students. At the beginning of each class, our coaches go through a muscle-specific stretching routine to warm-up the muscles we are going to use during that class. Although any sport or activity does have a risk of injury, we do our best to make sure our students learn, have fun and go home safe.

  • Can I start Martial Arts if I’m not in good shape?

You don’t have to be in great shape to start our program. As a matter of fact, it is quite the contrary. Our classes are a great way to get in shape while learning a skill that could potentially save your life. What a great combination!

  • Is it true that Martial Arts is violent?

Although there are some forms of martial arts that can be considered violent, our programs teach students how to survive a violent encounter. In order to do that, we have to teach some techniques in an aggressive way, but make no mistake; keeping our students safe is a top priority of ours.
